According to a source with the Jingzhou Municipal Transportation Bureau on August 12, the investor in the Wuhan section of Wuhan-Songzi Highway (Riverside Highway) has been fixed and is expected to break ground this year. This marks the start of the accelerated construction of the great express channel along the Yangtze River with a total investment of approximately 41.57 billion yuan and a full length of 222 kilometers.

Wuhan-Songzi Highway starts at Wuhan-Honghu Highway, passes southern Xiantao, northern Honghu, Jianli, Jiangling and Gong'an, and ends in Songzi. The highway is largely on the north of the Yangtze River, stretches across the river via Guanyinsi Yangtze River Bridge in Jiangling, and fuses into Songzi on the south of the Yangtze River. With a full length of about 222 kilometers, the project consists of five sections: Wuhan, Xiantao-Honghu, Wanquan-Jianli, Jianli-Jiangling and Jiangling-Songzi.

After its completion, Wuhan-Songzi Highway will further improve Hubei's highway network, promote the coordinated development of Xiantao, Honghu and Jingzhou, build a new channel connecting Wuhan Metropolitan Area Loop Highway to Yichang and Chongqing as an alternate line of Shanghai-Chongqing Highway, optimize the state highway network and the core highway network of the Yangtze River Economic Belt, and boost the development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt. Through transitions with highways like Beijing-Hong Kong-Macao Highway, Suizhou-Yueyang Highway, Shashi-Gong'an Highway, Erenhot-Guangzhou Highway, Yueyang-Yichang Highway and Wuhan Metropolitan Area Loop Line, Wuhan-Songzi Highway can improve the traffic conditions of northwestern Honghu, southeastern Xiantao and their neighboring areas.
